Europa 2019
National Birds

The Europa postage stamp (also known as Europa - CEPT until 1992) is an annual joint issue of stamps with a common design or theme by postal administrations of member countries of the European Communities (1956–1959), the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) from 1960 to 1992, and the PostEurop Association since 1993. Europe is the central theme.

"National Birds" was the Europa theme for 2019. Vatican City's contribution consists of 2 stamps designed by Daniela Fusco. The €1,10 features a Mallard Duck and the €1,15 stamp featuring a Pigeon.

Mallard ducks are the most common and recognizable wild ducks in the Northern Hemisphere. The male mallard duck, called a drake, sports a glossy green head, a white ring around its neck and a rich, chestnut-brown breast. The mottled brown female mallard looks downright dull next to the male's showy feathers. The mallard populates the Vatican Garden and fountains. Feral pigeons are those living in urban areas and live in close proximity to humans. You can see an abundance of these pigeons in St Peter's Square.
