Encyclical Laudato si'
Special Dedication Year
Postcards

Pope Francis announced that 2020 would be a special year of reflection and mediation on his "Encyclical Laudato si'" ("Praise be to You", Pope Francis' second encyclical). In the encyclical, the pope critiques consumerism and irresponsible development, laments environmental degradation and global warming, and calls all people of the world to take "swift and unified global action."

The four postcards display nature scenes located on mosaics from the 16th century Gregorian Chapel at St. Peter's Basilica. The values are €1,10, €1,15, €2.40, and €3,00. The mosaics were designed by Salvatore Monosillo between 1775-1779 and were restored during Pope Francis' pontificate. The designs represent the moon, water, a palm, and the sun. Two angels are incorporated into the design. The cover and the postal indicia feature Our Lady of Perpetual Help, also found in the Gregorian Chapel.
