Scott 677-678 (1980) The Vatican issued two stamps commemorating the seventh centenary of the death of Saint Albertus Magnus (Saint Albert the Great) on November 18, 1980. The set is comprised of two values: 300 lire and 400 lire. The 300L depicts Albert on a mission of peace; the 400L depicts the Saint as a student and bishop. Along the top of each stamp is printed S. ALBERTUS MAGNUS 1280-1980. In the lower right corner is indicated the 300L’s value; the 400L’s value is found in that stamp’s lower left corner. The words POSTE VATICANE are located along the left border of the 300L and along the right border of the 400L. The sketches were designed by Professor Angelo Canevari. The stamps are vertical, measuring 30 x 40 mm, with a 13 ¼ x 14 perforation. The stamps are printed in sheets of 20 on white chalky paper in multicolored recess and offset by the Polygraphic Institute and Mint of the Italian State. 1,150,000 series were printed.
