January 10, 1984 - The United States and Vatican City established full diplomatic relations for the first time in 117 years. In 1867 the U.S. Congress had prohibited diplomatic relations with Vatican City in a show of anti-Roman Catholic sentiment and had withdrawn the American minister. |
