Feast of Saint Benedict of Nursia

Lou Giorgetti

Saint Benedict: Patron of Europe
Scott 414-415 (1965)

June 11 is the Feast of Saint Benedict of Nursia, one of the Patron Saints of Europe. Pope Paul VI designated him so in 1965, and the two-stamp set above was issued to commemorate the event. In addition, a five-stamp set was issued in 1980 to honor the 1500th anniversary of his birth.
