You may have noticed that a number of the Daily Emails and Page 2 articles over the past few weeks have highlighted the various postmarks utilized by the Vatican Post Office over the years. Some are rather ordinary and common, while others take on a role in highlighting events, feast days and postal releases. The Vatican Philatelic Society (VPS) has collected a vast array of postmarks used by the Vatican Post Office since its inception in 1929. However, there are still a lot of postmark types that the VPS does not have on file. In particular, many postmarks for the years after 1975 are missing. Visit the VPS website at https://vaticanstamps.org/cancels/everyday.php to check your collection against what VPS has on file. Scanned covers can be uploaded from the member page. Every missing postmark we collect will broaden our database and enhance our reference collection. Those who have not downloaded a copy of the VPS Vatican Postmark Notebook can either go to the home page and look for the link, or go to the link located on the member page menu bar under the Documents tab. It is a free publication!! Happy hunting and thanks to all for your help!! |
