Post Card From Rome - 1930

Marvin Lanahan

In Rome, one of the most visited squares is the Plazza del Popolo, (the "People's Square"). From ancient times it was the gateway of travelers for the north. The obelisk, which is in the center of the square, was the first one brought to Rome by Augustus in celebration of his victory at Actium in 31 B.C The Piazza is defined by two churches, Santa Maria in Montesanto (pictured to the left, built 1662–75) and Santa Maria dei Miracoli (pictured to the right, built 1675–79).

The postcard has a 25l Conciliation stamp showing the Papal Arms stamp (Scott 4 - 1929).
It is postmarked, front and back, with a postmark Type I-12, dated 05/19/1930.
