Over the next three days, the Daily Emails will focus on the collecting niche of First Day Covers (FDCs), with an obvious focus on Vatican City FDCs. The articles will look back at the past history of Vatican FDCs, the present state of Vatican FDC issues, and then present a possible means for Vatican Philatelic Society members to access FDCs for newly-issued Vatican City stamps. Below is a reprint of an article which first appeared in Vatican Notes in 1996, authored by William Wickert. Although a little dated, it provides a good introduction into the classification of FDCs and what collectors can look for when embarking on a study of FDCs.
