With today's excerpt from our series "Popes on the Stamps of Vatican City", we move into the twentieth century and look at the four popes who served from the start of the century through the establishment of the Vatican City State. With these stamps, we will also see a change in focus for popes on stamps, from the depiction of popes to commemorate their accomplishments and places in the history of the Church, to now include the use of their images on the regular, air mail and commemorative stamps of the Vatican during their pontificates. This leads to a great increase in the number of presentations of popes on the stamps of Vatican City. Click on the Page 2 button below to access today's article. |
